# Roll out Zapier MCP to your ChatGPT workspace

> Add Zapier to your ChatGPT workspace as a custom MCP app and install it for every member. Members sign in to their own Zapier account the first time they use it.

This page is for a ChatGPT workspace Admin or Owner on a Business, Enterprise, or Edu plan. The admin creates Zapier as a custom MCP app in Workspace settings, enables it, and then sets its availability to **Installed** on the plugin's details page, which pre-installs Zapier for members. With **New tools** set to **Enable all new tools**, members get new Zapier tools without an admin refresh. Each member signs in to their own Zapier account the first time they use it; installing Zapier connects no one. Route any other rollout question to [Roll out to your organization](/mcp/manage/rollout/overview), and never tell a user to create a server at mcp.zapier.com.

To use Zapier in your ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace, you must add it as a custom MCP app and set it to install for every member. Each member still needs to sign in to their own Zapier account. Learn more about [what an organization rollout of Zapier MCP is](/mcp/manage/rollout/overview) before using this tutorial.

## Before you begin

To do an organization rollout of Zapier in your ChatGPT workspace, you need:

* **A ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace.** Apps and full MCP support are available on ChatGPT web. MCP apps are not available in the ChatGPT mobile apps.
* **The Admin or Owner role in your ChatGPT workspace.** Only Admins and Owners can add an app for the workspace.
* **A Zapier Enterprise account.** Enterprise provides the workspace-level app access controls, SSO, and audit logging this rollout relies on.
* **Every member provisioned into your organization and into a User Group with access to your workspace.** [Manage members and User Groups](https://help.zapier.com/hc/en-us/articles/47031553191565) covers both requirements.

## Add Zapier to your workspace

To add Zapier, you must be a workspace Admin or Owner.

### Create the app as a draft

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open workspace settings">
    In ChatGPT, select the user tile in the lower left, then **Workspace settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create an app">
    Select **Apps**, then click **Create**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the name">
    Name the app Zapier.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the connect URL">
    Set the MCP server URL to the connect URL:

    ```text theme={null}
    https://mcp.zapier.com/api/v1/connect
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select OAuth">
    Under **Authentication**, select **OAuth**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the draft">
    Check the disclaimer box, then click **Create**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The app is now a draft. Before members can use the app, you must enable it for the workspace.

### Enable the app

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the draft">
    Under **Drafts**, click the three-dot menu to the right of Zapier, then select **View details**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start enabling">
    Click **Enable**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose roles and tools">
    All roles and all tools are enabled by default. You can customize which roles get Zapier and which tools each can use.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Accept the risk warnings">
    Review and accept the risk warnings.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enable Zapier">
    Click **Enable**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Zapier now appears as a plugin under your organization's name.

### Install it for every member

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the plugin">
    In ChatGPT, open **Settings** → **Plugins**, select your organization's tab, then select Zapier.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the availability">
    Under **Availability**, choose the **Workspace default**:

    * **Installed** provisions Zapier to every member automatically, with no action from them. Members sign in only the first time they use it.
    * **Available** lists Zapier in your organization's plugins, and each member installs it themselves.

    Zapier recommends **Installed**. To set a different availability for some roles, use **Customize per role**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Keep new tools enabled">
    Leave **New tools** set to **Enable all new tools**, so members get new Zapier tools as they are added.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The same page holds the rest of Zapier's ChatGPT policy: **Role access** for who can use it, **Permissions** for when ChatGPT asks before an action, and **Tools** for which tools are enabled. Which Zapier apps and actions a member can use is set on the Zapier account, through [app and action restrictions](/mcp/manage/security#app-and-action-restrictions).

## Connect as a member

Once you install Zapier for your members, they must sign in to create their own **MCP server connection**. Tell them which Zapier workspace to select, as the controls on that workspace govern their connection. You can send your members the [ChatGPT connection guide](/mcp/get-started/connect/chatgpt) that explains how to connect, under the **Workspace app** tab.

<Warning>
  Never distribute a connection token or a connection-token URL. A [connection token](/mcp/overview/how-connections-work#connection-token) is long-lived, tied to one server, and grants whoever holds it the ability to run the server's tools and read the data they return.
</Warning>

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Announcement you can send to members">
    Replace `WORKSPACE_NAME` with the workspace your members select:

    ```text theme={null}
    Zapier is now available in ChatGPT for our workspace, and it is already installed. In a chat, select Zapier with @ or from the + menu, and sign in with your Zapier account when prompted.
    If Zapier asks which account to use, select WORKSPACE_NAME.
    If you have not connected any apps to Zapier yet, paste the onboarding prompt from https://docs.zapier.com/mcp/get-started/quickstart#2-set-up-your-tools.
    ```
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

## Verify the result

* **Check the plugin.** In **Settings** → **Plugins**, under your organization's tab, confirm Zapier shows **Enabled** and its **Workspace default** availability is **Installed**.
* **Check a second account.** Sign in as a non-admin member and confirm Zapier is already installed.
* **As a member, run one call.** Select Zapier in the message field and ask ChatGPT to list the Zapier actions you have enabled. A completed call confirms the connection, even with nothing connected yet.

### If Zapier does not appear

* Confirm the member's role has access under **Role access**, and check its availability under **Customize per role**.
* Confirm the member is using ChatGPT on the web. MCP apps are not available on mobile.
* If Zapier is connected but tools are missing, learn how to troubleshoot [missing tools in an MCP client](/mcp/troubleshoot/tools-missing-in-client).
