# MCP server connection times out

> Diagnose and fix connection timeouts when your AI client cannot reach your Zapier MCP server.

Connection issues with your Zapier MCP server are usually caused by network problems, an outdated AI client, or an expired connection token. This article walks you through diagnosing and resolving each cause.

## Symptom

Your AI client cannot reach your Zapier MCP server, or the connection takes too long and times out.

## Causes

* Your network or browser is blocking the connection.
* Your AI client is out of date.
* Your connection token has expired or changed.

## How to fix it

Try one or more of the following:

* Confirm your device has an active internet connection by loading another website in your browser.
* Verify that [mcp.zapier.com](https://mcp.zapier.com/) loads correctly in your browser.
* Update your AI client to the latest version.
* If you are using an unlisted client with a connection token, [rotate your connection token](/mcp/authentication#rotate-a-token) and reconnect.
