# Tools are missing in your AI client

> Fix missing Zapier MCP tools caused by a cached tool list, misconfiguration, or expired app connection.

If you have added tools to your Zapier MCP server but they do not appear in your AI client, your client may be using a cached tool list, or the tools may not be configured correctly. This article covers how to refresh the tool list and verify your setup.

## Symptom

You added tools to your MCP server, but they do not appear in your AI client.

## Causes

* Your AI client cached an older tool list and needs a manual refresh.
* The tools are not configured correctly on your server.
* An app connection has expired.
* Your server URL or connection token is incorrect in your AI client's configuration.

## How to fix it

<Steps>
  <Step title="Refresh your client's tool list">
    Some clients cache the tool list and need a manual refresh:

    * **ChatGPT:** Go to [Connector Settings](https://chatgpt.com/#settings/Connectors), select your Zapier connector, and select **Refresh**.
    * **Claude Desktop:** Restart the application.
    * **Cursor or VS Code:** Reload the window or restart the editor.
    * **Other clients:** Check the client's documentation for how to refresh the MCP tool list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check tool configuration">
    Go to the [Zapier MCP dashboard](https://mcp.zapier.com/) and select your server.

    * **Managed mode:** Confirm the tools appear on the **Configure** tab and are enabled.
    * **Agentic mode:** Tools are discovered dynamically. Check the **Configure** tab for any warning icons on app connections rather than checking for individual tools.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check your app connection">
    If a tool shows an alert icon ![alertCircleFill](https://cdn.zapier.com/storage/photos/9de84813ec88a1a289eeb6d4232fdf69.png) beside its name, select the **menu icon** ![navMoreHoriz](https://cdn.zapier.com/storage/photos/c75ae81dbb8902b98f7d575b0468f608.png) beside the app name and select **Update authentication** to fix the connection.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify your connection details">
    For OAuth clients, disconnect and reconnect using the **Connect** tab. For unlisted clients using a connection token, confirm the server URL in your AI client matches the one shown on the **Connect** tab in the [Zapier MCP dashboard](https://mcp.zapier.com/).
  </Step>
</Steps>
