Symptom
You added tools to your MCP server, but they do not appear in your MCP client.Causes
- Your MCP client cached an older tool list and needs a manual refresh.
- The tools are not configured correctly on your server.
- An app connection has expired.
- Your server URL or connection token is incorrect in your MCP client’s configuration.
How to fix it
1
Refresh your MCP client's tool list
Some MCP clients cache the tool list and need a manual refresh:
- ChatGPT: Go to Connector Settings, select your Zapier connector, and select Refresh.
- Claude Desktop: Restart the application.
- Cursor or VS Code: Reload the window or restart the editor.
- Other MCP clients: Check the MCP client’s documentation for how to refresh the tool list.
2
Check tool configuration
Go to the Zapier MCP dashboard and select your server.
- Managed mode: Confirm the tools appear on the Configure tab and are enabled.
- Agentic mode: Tools are discovered dynamically. Check the Configure tab for any warning icons on app connections rather than checking for individual tools.
3
Check your app connection
If a tool shows an alert icon
beside its name, select the menu icon
beside the app name and select Update authentication to fix the connection.
